These, like vitamins , fiber and proteins are taken to improve the diets so in that sense, minerals are supplements. Let’s see then what they can do for us.

Magnesium is also important to nerve tissue and heart. Foods rich in magnesium are fish, whole grains, nuts, soybeans, and raw leafy vegetables.
Manganese- This co-exist in many enzymes structures concerned with the blood sugar control and energy metabolism. So you see this is involved with diabetes. Can you see why some mistake this as one of the treatments for diabetes? They also think this as a brain mineral, an oxygenerator, much like iron. Foods that are rich in manganese include legumes, pineapples, bananas, whole grains, beet tops, blueberries and saltwater fish.
Niacin and Niacinamide- Niacin which is another name for Vitamin B3 has a vital role in the production of energy, in the metabolism of fat, carbohydrate and cholesterol, and in the production as well of some body compounds. Like chromium, it is important for glucose tolerance and is therefore a key element in the control of diabetes, especially hypoglycemia. It is good then to add this in the form of niacinamide to the diabetes diet. Proponents of this go as far as to say it is likely to prevent the onset of Type 1 diabetes. Who can blame the people in thinking this is one of the treatments for diabetes?
Vanadium- Found in small amounts in plants and animals, this seems to show a number of insulin-like effects. Studies on animals with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes demonstrated the fact that vanadium regulated the blood glucose levels. Research on humans also showed some increase in insulin efficiency to the point people involved were able to lower their insulin dosage. This works with chromium, balancing blood sugar and imitates insulin.
Zinc- This plays a role in body functioning and in nearly all phases of insulin metabolism. That’s why some think it is one of the treatments for diabetes. It is involved in the combination, discharge, and consumption so its lack is related to diabetes. Foods rich in zinc are fish, whole grains, animal proteins and maple sugar. Zinc also helps protect the teeth, promotes the proper functioning of the immune system and skin. It is good at fighting viruses and protects the nervous system.
There you have it, although they are not treatments for diabetes, the supplements will help maintain health if taken in the right way. Proper intake of minerals is required for best health. These requirements are usually met by regular diet. A cautionary measure should be taken as excessive dosage could lead to poisoning.
