New! Four "Preventable Risk Factors" That Reduce American Life Expectancy What would you be willing to give up in exchange for five more years of living? Would you be willing to give up smoking? Would you try to eat healthy and exercise so you will not gain weight and your blood pressure and blood sugar levels can be stabilized? If you do, then you gain five more years of living with your loved ones. Then you got it made for those are the four risks that reduce one’s life expectancy. And I thank the author for these for we all need reminders now and then. Type 2 Diabetes Advances Seen in 2011 Type 2 diabetes is a big problem that needs to be tackled. Thank goodness that in 20011 some health advances were made. Hopefully all these will lead to total cure. The trouble was Avandia had been linked to increased risk of heart attack, heart failure and dying. It was a good thing we read the good news that visiting the dentist can give clues if one has diabetes. Also a research from University of Toronto and St. Michael’s Hospital found that eating just two ounces of unsalted nuts can help one manage the blood sugar better. Check this out if you want to know what they say is the most effective diabetes reversing resource currently available on a scientifically proven program that normalizes the blood sugar and eliminates diabetes drugs and insulin shots. A Test Can Tell if Diabetes is in Your Future Dr. Randy Martin talked to the endocrinologist about diabetes especially on the topic regarding a test that can predict diabetes. It looks like the researchers found five amino acids that are more in quantity among those with diabetes so a test to determine this could be done in the doctor’s office. This would be very much welcome for then a strategy could be planned to prevent the coming of a full-blown diabetes. I like Dr. Martin’s advice though that while this test is being developed, patients could reduce their risk by keeping a normal weight, exercising 20 minutes a day and eating a diet rich in fruits and vegetables. To Control Diabetes, Turn to Top 10 Superfoods We cannot emphasize enough how important a healthy diet is not only for the diabetics but for the whole family as well These top ten superfoods contain the nutrients we all need. They are also high in fiber and so we could feel full longer. These super foods are: dark green leafy vegetables, citrus fruits, sweet potatoes, tomatoes, berries, yogurt and fat free milk, fish with omega fatty acids, nuts and whole grains. We already are friends with these foods but it is good to be reminded once in a while. Diabetes Service Dogs Save Lives I know diabetes dogs are a life saver and I realize it costs a lot of money to train one. When she ended up with a free diabetes assist dog does it mean she got it for free? It is good to know that when Lundquist searched the engine for a free diabetes service dogs in Minnesota, she found out that its service area includes Wisconsin, Iowa, the Dakotas and parts of Illinois. Exercises You Don’t Really Need You don’t need crutches for they could hurt your back. Neither do you need straight-leg dead lifts because bending forward with straight legs puts pressure on the invertebral discs. You also don’t need leg extensions; they’re best for those recovering from knee injuries. Neither do you need to do tricep extensions and squatting lateral raise. No, they’re not for me either. I will stick to a nice walk in the park, thank you. Evangelical Offers Diabetes and Pre-Diabetes Classes It sure is true knowledge is power when it comes to do with diabetes. What a nice gesture it is to offer free classes to empower the diabetics in taking care of themselves by taking an active part in managing their condition. This type of classes should be available all over the US as it will help the diabetics feel more confident that someone is out there who will help them face this challenge. And if you’re late for these classes or they too far away from where you live. Google where they are available. We All Must do More to Combat Diabetes I hear Frank’s plea and we should all do something to fight this battle. I can’t believe over a quarter of Maine population is suffering from diabetes. This should be stopped and it needs all our help. If we hear that funding will be cut for diabetes research or anything else pertaining to this condition, let us all stand united and let the powers that be hear our side. July 3, 2011 What a Difference Half an Hour a Month Makes! What a great thing to know that a study found the diabetics showed improvement in their blood sugar level if they are given half an hour a month of support regarding meals and/or meal planning. Let’s do this; it’s the least we can do. Why wait till the complications set in? June 3, 2011 Surprising and Fun Ways to Cut Diabetes Risk Wow! Those are quite surprising and fun ways to prevent or reduce the risk for diabetes. Walking it off is not new. Neither are broccoli, milk and short exercises but a wine chaser, beer, coffee and tea? That’s good news worth spreading around. It is about time the diabetics and those at risk receive some good news. May 4, 2011
FDA OKs New Treatment for Type 2 Diabetes
This is the first time I have heard of this drug that has just been approved by the Food and Drug Administration. If it really does what it says about blood glucose control then my readers should know about this Tradjenta so they can at least be informed. January 24, 2011
Taking the Copay out of Staying Healthy
I hope this is true. I got this news item from Long Angeles Times saying that it is beginning to cost less to stay healthy. Dr. Howard Shapiro's Beat Diabetes Peanut Butter Cookies
This sounds like a good recipe to try especially it helps beat diabetes. I have not tried baking them yet but I will certainly do so. Imagine having a cookie and beat diabetes, too. It can't go any better than that. I say any food that is good for the diabetics is good for everyone. January 10, 2011

Biotech Stock Mailbag: Best Stocks to Watch in '11
It's good to see if your pharmaceutical agencies are ones of the best stocks in the market although one can't put too much value on this. Why? Today's winner could be the next best loser on tomorrow's headlines. Suffice it to say to just be careful out there and get informed on things that matter to us, especially our health. I don't know about you, but I'd rather follow: Use The Science Behind The Health Benefits Of Vegetables To Improve Your Health, Delay Aging And Cure Major Diseases. January 6, 2011
6 Tips To Manage Type 2 Diabetes in 2011
I like all these tips that will help every diabetic a whole lot more than we can imagine. it is because the article does not just say to be careful consuming too much starchy carbohydrates but it recommends foods to substitute. It is also good to know that a diabetic should try to eat within the hour of waking as it makes sense when there has not been any food intake all night long. January 4, 2011
In Women, Diabetes Plus Depression a Deadly Combo
Diabetes and depression are a deadly combo that needs to be addressed especially the latter condition is undiagnosed more often than we care. The advice therefore for both the patient and the doctor to be on the lookout for the signs is the proper thing to do. This way, strategies can be used to reverse the deadly result that the combo could lead to. January 2, 2011
Your Body Is Thwarting Your Weight-Loss Efforts
That's true, exercise perhaps is the secret to weight loss success because it has been proven time and time again that going on regular exercise will help except that if we eat more than what we spend, the pounds will keep coming back. I guess there is no way we can get rid of that fat bank except through will power and determination. But this has some kind of new material on Eat Stop Eat- The New Expanded Version! National Experts Discuss Faith-Based Healing
I think faith healing should be accompanied with the effort on giving the patients the best deal possible. People can still believe in faith healing but the patients should be provided with the best care possible at the same time. There is nothing to stop one from their belief as long as the patient is taken cared of properly. December 29, 2010
HealthFirst: Type 1 Diabetes Vaccine
Wow, this has been what I have been waiting for. The early results that were reported are very encouraging indeed. Apparently, this new vaccine which consists of four injections has a protein named gad which tells the immune system to stop destroying the remaining cells that produce insulin. This must work for type 2 also. Oh, please say it is so. December 27, 2010
Scandal of the Deadly Diabetes Drug Subsidized by French State
Imagine as many as between 1000 and 2000 deaths were reported due to officials in France failing to heed the warning on the use of the drug called Mediator, linking it to heart valve disease. Now this has grown into a scandal that is being investigated. At least, it has been banned in the US in 1997. Shop with confidence at America's Diabetes Superstore ! December 25, 2010
Type 2 Diabetics Who Use Insulin Would Switch to Less Expensive One
Can you blame the type 2 diabetics for being willing to change to a cheaper brand of insulin if ever it is available? The financial burden is just too much to carry for some. I bet if there ever would be available a once-a-week or even once-a-month dosage, they would jump at the chance to switch. The co-payment would probably decrease and so would the out-of-pocket cost. December 23, 2010
FDA Announces Recall of Abbott Glucose Test Strips
It is great to receive alerts such as this so that the diabetics can make some adjustment in their diabetes management. I am so glad too that the FDA outlined things to do if the strips one is using right now are affected by this recall. The diabetics should not make any assumptions that all strips are okay just because one is not affected as this may affect the way they respond to low blood sugar reading. December 21, 2010
Whole-Fat Dairy Products May Lower Type 2 Diabetes Risk: Study
Gee, this makes me confused. We are not supposed to have whole milk and the recommendations have been to drink the low-fat or fat-reduced dairy products. Now this study identified some trans-palmitoleic acid that reduced the odds of type 2 diabetes by nearly two-thirds. What do we do? I guess we'll just have to consider this as an observation for now and wait before making changes in the diet. December 19, 2010
Almonds May Reduce Risk of Type 2 Diabetes
This is great news for the diabetics; I don't think anyone will mind eating almonds. And the double benefit found in the study will be additional reason to add this nut to the menu. Eating what one likes while having LDL reduced and increasing insulin sensitivity cannot be ignored at least without trying. December 17, 2010
These Four Steps Can Reduce Risk of Diabetes
Those four steps will certainly help reduce the risk to develop diabetes. Hopefully people will take them to heart and follow the recommendations and send them to their friends and families because one never knows who has the risk. Following those four steps for the non-diabetics will help prevent the coming of this condition. December 15, 2010
Eat Clean for Diabetes
This is great information for those with diabetes especially for the detailed listing of foods. The author really lived up to the title of the web page on eating clean. I will have to let my readers know about this as this is important information for them. December 13, 2010
Sperm Stem Cells Can Be Turned Into Insulin-Making Cells to Treat Diabetes
This indeed could be the next step to a cure, at least for the diabetic men because it would get rid of immune rejection since the beta cells are their own. My only concern is that if this is replicated in humans, how are the researchers going to address the problem of the lower-sugar effect in mice lasting only for a week? December 11, 2010
Diabetes Could Swamp Health Care
Yes, gaining weight is a sign one may be at risk to develop diabetes so heed the warning the author of this article so kindly gave us. Although the government should be spearheading campaigns to raise diabetes awareness, we the people should also take the responsibility to heart. If we do not want to do it for the economy at least let's do it for our health. December 9, 2010

Gastric Surgery Abates Some Diabetes Issues
There are pros and cons to getting bariatric surgery in order to lose weight and reduce the risk to develop type 2 diabetes and heart disease. One has to consider, however, the ramifications of the surgery. There is the risk of the up to 1% mortality rate and the forever changed eating habits. December 5, 2010
Health Tip: Having Diabetes Can Hurt Your Eyes
This is what worries me about diabetes - the complications. And one of the hardest ones to swallow is the complication to the eyes. So I am so glad that you have shown the ways to avoid eye problems. Just like what they say, the eyes are the windows of the soul so we really have to keep them for as long as we live.Combat diabetic macular edema on several fronts.(Metabolic Disorders): An article from: Family Practice News December 3, 2010
Pre-diabetes Diagnosis a Serious Warning Sign
It is so nice you can ask this doctor anything about diabetes. And what a comprehensive answer he gave to this person requesting for an over view of this condition. Anyone who will follow this doctor's recommendations should do fine. Perhaps the person who asked this question may not develop diabetes at all. December 1, 2010
Does Diabetes Hamper Cognitive Function by Lowering the Brain's Cholesterol?
Oh my, this is something else we have to watch out for. If high cholesterol is bad for the heart but the low cholesterol is bad for the brain, what will be our choice then? It would be akin to Sophie's choice because it is between the heart attack and cognitive functioning. It's not like the choice between the menopausal hormones that could ease the symptoms and the risk to develop cancer. That was an easier choice to make. November 29, 2010
How to Manage Your Diabetes
This is a comprehensive guide on how to manage diabetes. It should be made into some sort of a checklist so the diabetics will be able to check off each item as it is done with the date along side. This way nothing will be neglected and one can live a more confident life knowing that no one item is taken for granted. It's too bad the provider removed the link but I have the news item which I can give to anyone who wants it. Just say so on the contact form. November 25, 2010
Type 1 Diabetes Death Rate is Falling, But Not Fast Enough
This is indeed encouraging news with the study's senior author, Dr. Trevor Orchard, saying that with diabetes control, a diabetic can have a normal life expectancy at least as close to it as possible. And we are getting there because we are using all possible resources like the Law of Attraction that I have started telling my readers that we can do together. November 25, 2010
Comparing Meter Accuracy
I am glad to have been able to see this study on the comparison of glucose monitoring systems, all 27 of them. Knowing this will give the consumers more information on making the right choice for what is the best fit of them. And it looks like the four suppliers in the states have a lock on reimbursement from almost all health insurance plans. Does this mean cost is not covered? We have to do something about this. No wonder they didn't put this information out in the open for I just discovered this just now. And the author just found this out by chance when he went to South Korea of all places! November 23, 2010
Red Wine Can Help Fight Diabetes
This has been reported before but what I think makes this specially helpful is the comparison as to the effect of red wine on diabetes versus that of a medical drug. It looks like this research has proof that the antioxidants in red wine is just as effective as the medication. So why go on meds? November 21, 2010 Here's an alert that Frank Fox sent me: Just for a small alert. I was put on Novarapid & levimer insulin a few months ago. I have been having bad fits of loss of feelings and bad cramps. Also intermittently I have had bad eye sight and severe headaches. When I was on Levimer, I started with a low dose but the pain was intense. When my sugar level was high, it felt like an old operation and injury scars had just happened. The pain was unbearable as if the operation was just being done. In fact, compared to the pain I experienced, the operation was comfortable. It was as if the operation was done without anesthesia. The feeling was the same with the old scars from injuries I sustained before. I became so sensitive it was unreal. I have got a very high pain barrier and I heal very well for a long term diabetic type 1 for 44 years now so I do not understand why this happened to me. I changed back to a bovine insulin three days ago and I am already feeling fine. Here is something else you may wish to post on the site:Experts warn over diabetes drug axe - AOL News He wrote to me again to say that he is now back to normal again with none of these symptoms affecting him. So he feels it is conclusive that it was the new insulin that is making him feel normal. November 21, 2010
Juvenile Diabetes Expert Explains Condition to Jefferson Students
Having a juvenile diabetes expert visit a classroom to explain this condition is a huge thing. Not only will the students know how to deal with this when it happens to them but also, which is my fervent hope, is for these children to learn how to prevent this from coming into their lives. November 19, 2010
Moderate Alcohol Intake May Benefit Kidney Transplant Patients
This appears to be a benefit for kidney transplant recipients for they already have so many restraints and recommendations after the transplant. This one will actually give them some enjoyment out of life. We have to thank the researchers from Netherlands for this gift. We have to watch though that the keyword to remember is moderate. November 17, 2010
France: 500 Patients May Have Died After Taking Diabetes Drug Mediator
I don't think this has been distributed in the North American markets but to play it safe, I will put an update on this at Facebook and tweet it as well. Anyone who has taken Mediator should take this newsalert to his doctor for this has been prescribed to overweight and diabetic patients. That is why some get the Meta Medicine Charts which they read, study, and learn the tricks. November 15, 2010
Need a Focused Awareness Plan to Tackle Diabetes: Sheila Dikshit
That certainly is true. There is a need for a focused plan or else the effort will just flounder in the sea of confusion. Doing it in a helter skelter way will not get us anywhere. Better access for diabetes care is an excellent way to start. This should not be too difficult to implement as the hospitals are already there. November 13, 2010
Diabetes Research Made Significant Strides in Past Year
Among the bad news of more diabetes cases, etc are wonderful advancement in research. One is the successful reversal of diabetes in mice through a vaccine discovered at the University of Calgary by Dr. Pere Santamaria. Can a successful testing in humans be far behind? Then the discovery at the University of Geneva Medical School, by Pedro Herrera and his team that the adult pancreas can actually regenerate alpha cells into beta cells that work fills me with such high hope no one can ever imagine. November 11, 2010
Panel Concludes Artificial Pancreas for Type 1 Diabetes Safe for Outpatient Testing
The day is coming closer when the artificial pancreas can be available for use. That will be the day I will celebrate because there won't be the need for frequent blood sugar testing. So would the injection of insulin be eliminated. Can improvement to the quality of life be far behind then? November 9, 2010
Greater Food Insecurity from Recession Poses Increased Risk to Low Income Individuals with Diabetes
Food insecurity is a way of life during a recession. Not being able to access food and proper nutrition to ensure a healthy and active life will certainly raise the diabetes risk for food consumption plays such an important role in diabetes care and management. Glad to know there is a solution in the form of telemedicine. November 7, 2010
Expert Tips for Managing Diabetes
Those are good tips and indeed are from experts. Although most diabetics know all about those expert tips, still they need reminders from time to time. You cannot blame them for they are faced with so much challenge that it is easy to give up or overlook some important tips like the dilated eye exam mentioned in your tips. Note: The news provider just deleted this link on April 23, 2011. November 5, 2010
Multivitamins Don't Reduce Diabetes Risk
While it may be true that vitamins and supplements neither reduce nor increase the diabetes risk, it is still good to take them in my humble opinion. For one thing, we may not get all the essential nutrients from our food consumption. Then there is the belief that the soil is not as fertile as before and so does not produce goods of the same caliber of old. November 3, 2010
A Graduation Gift From Dad
It is great to know an engineer is working hard to create an artificial pancreas. The ulterior motive is that he is doing it for his son who was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at 11 months but really his success will ultimately help the diabetics all over the globe. Let us therefore wish him well and hope he succeeds. November 1, 2010
Can Hot Peppers Defeat Diabetes?
Why not give these researchers a chance to try their study and see what happens? A daily dose of 30 grams of chili paste is nothing to sneeze at. Besides there was another study that showed the efficacy of the hot peppers to lowering the heart problems and the amount of insulin needed to maintain the blood sugar level.
